Using CCTV to tackle Neighbours From Hell
CCTV Use
One of the most flexible and effective techniques for tackling Neighbours From Hell, is Closed Circuit Television (CCTV).
Whilst it is becoming an increasingly attractive option, it is important that when used for security in your home, a number of important factors need to be carefully considered.
First off and most importantly, it is absolutely vital that if you want to use CCTV, you must think about what problems you need to address and exactly how you want to tackle them.
Now this might be as straightforward as saying, "I need a camera to watch over my front door" or "I'm worried about my Neighbours From Hell (NFH) possibly vandalising my car", but experience suggests that it would be prudent to consider very carefully any anti-social behaviour (ASB) which may have gone before and what, if any, may be yet to come.
So the trick is to define clear objectives for the video surveillance and try to select the most appropriate equipment for those tasks. For example, if there is a history of a Neighbour From Hell attacking a property, either through general anti-social behaviour or perhaps vandalism, arson or physical assault, then trying to deter this type of behaviour using a highly visible camera, is generally unlikely to have the desired result.
Instead Neighbours From Hell may simply decide to attack in other ways, or choose to target areas not seen to be covered by the CCTV. In this situation, it is sensible to use a hidden covert camera, so that vital evidence can be obtained, which is acceptable for use by the Police and Criminal Justice System (CJS).
